Have Your Say: Proposed Changes to Public Transport and Bus Subsidies
Public transport provision in Northamptonshire is changing. We are reviewing all current bus services and public transport provision in order to develop a more efficient and sustainable system that meets the needs of the whole county on a greatly reduced budget.
We are proposing a new, revised transport network that will focus on:
· Working with bus companies so that bus routes which have been marginally subsidised by the council could be tweaked to become fully commercial.
· Continuing to partly pay for some routes which receive only a small subsidy.
· Working with community transport operators so they can operate services under a section 22 permit, which would allow them to transport paying passengers.
· The introduction of six demand response systems in deep rural areas of the county:
o CallConnect in north-east Northants - an expansion of this existing, successful scheme
o Nene Valley
o Corby rural
o Welland Valley
o Long Buckby and Daventry
o South Northants
· Promoting car sharing clubs and self-help community transport schemes.
We want you to have your say on how you use the service currently, how the proposed changes might affect you and your community, or ways that we can help you and you community to make sure your transport needs are met.
More information is available on the You Choose website: http://youchoosencc.wordpress.com/
You can have your say on the proposals by writing to us using one of the methods below. The consultation will be open until Friday, 27 May, 2011. It is proposed that the completion date for introducing the new network of services is Monday 5th September. This will allow a full period of time for consultation, tendering and the registration of new services.
